The focus is on topics like school safety, opioids and infrastructure, and trade. In her role, Schlapp has not been in touch with journalists. In March, she was the subject of a sudden surge in media attention when it became it was reported that she would be the next candidate to fill Hope Hicks's post as director of communication. The battle has been bitter. Schlapp's allies started fighting Tony Sayegh over the media. When The Washington Examiner published a negative story about Sayegh, Schlapp claimed she phoned Sayegh to show a heart to heart.
